The ALX Dog Walk & Sustainability Festival returns Saturday, April 18, 2026 to unite two powerful causes—promoting sustainable living and animal welfare—for one joyful, community-wide celebration of pets and the planet.
Join 2,000+ people and their furry friends for a 2-mile walk down historic Union Street and returning along the Waterfront Walk to Oronoco Bay Park for a celebration that offers something for everyone – an interactive marketplace of sustainable products and eco-art, adoptable pets, family-friendly dog and kids’ activities, delicious food, DJ music, doggie portraits, and more. It’s a celebration of community, the environment, and the animals we love.
Fan favorite and NBC4 Washington Meteorologist, Chuck Bell, returns for the fifth time (!) as event emcee, bringing his signature charm, energy, and love for the environment and dogs – PLUS – this year, Alexandria’s Monte Durham of “Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta” will co-emcee alongside Chuck!
Proceeds from the 2026 ALX Dog Walk benefit two local special nonprofits – both ALX Dog Walk’s year-round environmental education efforts in the DMV and the AWLA’s work for Alexandria’s animals. Plus, we’re making a sponsor donation to the nonprofit, Upcycle Creative Reuse Center, to help them continue their mission of turning trash into treasure!
- Goodies for All!: All registered walkers will receive a drawstring goodie bag, including a sustainably sourced T-shirt, a fair-trade dog bandana, and other special eco-treats.
- Individual Registration: Individual registration (with/without a pup) is $35 per person – the same participation fee since 2022!
- New this Year! Create a Team! Create a walking team and compete for cool prizes! Recruit friends, neighbors and family to join your team and fundraise together. Fun and creative team names and costumes are highly suggested! Just add “Team Registrations” to your cart. Prizes for top fundraising teams will be announced soon!
- Registration Discounts: Military: The first 150 active/retired military to register receive free registration. When registering, use the promo code MILITARY and bring your military ID at check-in. Students: Students receive a $25 ticket with the promo code STUDENT. Bring your student ID at check-in.
- Children: Children 12 and under are free (no Goodie Bag).
- Free Coffee!: We always serve-up free ethically sourced coffee (thanks to the Hypergoat Coffee Roasters in Old Town) to the first 500 participants who bring a cup. We also provide a healthy bake sale and other treats to get your morning started.
- No Single Use Plastic Bottles Served, But We’ll Have Water!: Traditionally, we ask Walkers to bring their own water bottles. This year, however, we’ve partnered with our nonprofit friend, Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, to offer still water in aluminum cans from Drink Open Water—a sustainable water company. 100% of the proceeds from water sales will be donated directly to this wonderful nonprofit. A big thank you to our sponsor, Monster Organics, for recycling all the aluminum cans!
- The Dog Show Competition!: Three lucky dogs will take home a special prize in our Dog Show Competition. This year’s theme: wedding chic – let your dog’s personality set the tone with creative canine wedding attire!
- Early Check-In/Pick-Up Day: To make your Walk Day experience a bit easier, we offer a day to stop by and pick-up your swag bag and other surprise treats on Wednesday, April 15th, 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Hypergoat Coffee Roasters, 215 N Payne St, Old Town Alexandria, VA.
- Confirm Your Swag!: While we cannot guarantee Goodie Bags for Walk Day if you register after March 23rd, we absolutely promise to have a Goodie Bag Pick-Up Day after the event (Date TBD!).

8:00 AM: Welcome remarks 8:15 AM: 2-mile dog walk (with surprises along the walk route!)
9:00 AM: Celebration, art show, dog show, and festival fun
